Link Visiting Places: Twilight Princess Edition

Link is very confused.

Link--the other Link, perhaps better known as Link of Ordon--said he was going to take him to Hyrule Castle Town in Lanaryu Province. Link (of Skyloft) did not know what a Hyrule Castle Town was. He did know what a Lanaryu Province was, or at least just a Lanaryu, and had used that to build certain expectations.

This hilly green landscape defies his expectations.

"Um...are you sure we're in the right place?" he asks Link of Ordon, looking around at the Not Desert.

He lets out a sigh.

"It's okay."

He then takes a keen interest in a nearby apple.

Which, by the way. He knows what apples are.

He'd be surprised if you didn't, honestly. And thankfully, he's not explaining what apples are, either. Just...silence. Until...

"...Hey." A beat.

"Wanna see more animals kinda like that dog?" Because oh man.

Has he got a surprise for you.

He nods and grabs Skyloft by the arm again, leading him down the eastern street until they get to a series of houses. There's meowing in the distance and it gets closer until a black and white cat runs into the street, coming right up to Ordon as if they were friends.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG WHAT IS THAT IT SOUNDS JUST LIKE A REMLIT AND KIND OF SORT OF LOOKS LIKE ONE JUST WITH SMALLER EARS AND A LESS BUSHY TAIL AND OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OGM GOMG/!?!?!?!?!/1

Yeah Skyloft's over there standing as if he's seeing Zelda again after a long separation.

But wait, Skyloft. There's more.

Ordon starts to head left, following the cat and if Skyloft follows, they'll come to this backyard and...

Oh, now you want things explained to you, huh buddy?

"They're cats." He crouches down to pet his cat friends. ALL OF HIS CAT FRIENDS.

"They're all hanging out here because they're waiting on their friend." Ordon jerks his head toward the door of the building they're next to.

Okay first of all, how would he know that and second...yeah really, how would he know that?

"...you can talk to them?"

Please be quick with your response good sir Link is just itching to pick up one of these cats.

.......Um. Oops.

"...Kiiiind of. Like, cats can't normally talk but uh."

He didn't.

Show Skyloft the Wolfy Thing.

"But what?" he says as he picks up the nearest nekkochan and stares lovingly into its eyes

...Let's be honest, this was probably going to happen sooner or later.

"So uh, remember that thing about twilight where people normally turn into spirits when they get stuck in it and how that didn't happen with me?"

Sure okay why not.

Okay. How...to set this up as gently as possible before actually showing him... Because come on, there's no not-crazy way to say, "Sometimes I turn into a wolf," is there?

"Well, it...kinda did something with me, but I was still able to do stuff. It just..." Ahhhh, screw it. If there's anybody who'd take this relatively well, it'd be his ancestor...right?

"...Don't freak out, okay?" Oh that is never a good thing to say before showing something.

"About what?" he asks innocently as he stares lovingly into the eyes of the mewing nekkochan

Well...actually, that's a blessing, it means he probably wouldn't notice Midna. Who he can literally feel facepalming right this second and she's not even outside his shadow yet. Midna pls.

He steps a little bit away to give Skyloft some alone time with his nekkchans.

SOON. Some of the cats bound over to the dog a few feet away, who just suddenly appeared.

......Dog.....?????????? Kinda like that dog from before except way.

Way. Way way way way bigger.

It takes a moment for Link to notice the dog, as the eyes of a nekkochan are hypnotic.

When he does notice the dog--well whatever it's a dog.

"...L-link? Where...? Where did he go?" he asks, looking all around.

The "dog" barks when his name is called.

"Um. Link?" he calls out again.

He has a hunch, but.

Just to be sure.

He barks again before...what looks like rolling his eyes.

Man he warned you.

...Not specifically about this, but still. You were warned.

Oh good he didn't freak out, yay.

Also it was either this or trying to tell him about this which, really. Showing is better than telling.

Also some of the nekkochans are cat-piling him now because soft, fluffy and a good conversationalist, so he'll just step aside here and change back to a form he can actually talk in.

...And even then, still being cat-crowded, oops.

"So sometimes you're a dog," he says when Link returns to his human form.

"Wolf." There's a difference, you know. "And...yeah. Like..." That...demonstration wasn't because he couldn't explain it well, it's just...

"There's no real way to tell somebody that without sounding like a crazy person, you know?"

Guess who else knows about this who isn't Midna and/or Zelda?
