Link Visiting Places: Twilight Princess Edition

Link is very confused.

Link--the other Link, perhaps better known as Link of Ordon--said he was going to take him to Hyrule Castle Town in Lanaryu Province. Link (of Skyloft) did not know what a Hyrule Castle Town was. He did know what a Lanaryu Province was, or at least just a Lanaryu, and had used that to build certain expectations.

This hilly green landscape defies his expectations.

"Um...are you sure we're in the right place?" he asks Link of Ordon, looking around at the Not Desert.

...That uncomfortable moment when he remembers what Shad has been researching lately.

"...Fair warning, he'd probably spontaneously combust if he knew where you were from, so..." Yeah, he probably doesn't need to finish that sentence for Skyloft, does he?

"Wouldn't everyone?"

He realizes that this guy's probably a special case, but still. He's from the sky. That's not something you can just tell anyone.

"...Okay, yeah, but he's been looking into this 'Ancient Sky Civilization' for years, apparently."

...Ahhh, yes.

"...'ancient sky civilization'?"

"...Yeah. He'd flip his lid."

So either avoid the bar or pretend you're his cousin or something.

"What has he told you?"

"Uhh. Hold on..." He's trying to remember, give him a bit.

"Apparently, he learned that the people who lived there were...'beings closer to the gods than Hylians' and that these beings created Hylians in the first place."

...From Ordon's tone, he obviously knows that's probably not the case. Skyloft sounded like a regular town so far, just...in the sky.

Well considering that they're thousands of years into the future relative to his native time and that the Temple of Time symbol--one half a symbol quite familiar to him and another important to Hylia--is everywhere...

"...Ah. You alright?"

"About that fountain."

[cant_be_tamed]

"...What about it?" Go on.

It's okay, Link.

"I've seen that symbol somewhere before. At the Temple of Time. It was big. I could see it all the way at the far end of the desert. I didn't understand what it meant because I'd never seen or heard of the Triforce before. I just thought it was a symbol that meant something to Hyl...to Hylia.

"But, the bottom part of the symbol, the bird...I saw that all the time in Skyloft. And, there were little...statues, I guess, of the bird symbol in the different temples I had to visit. But none of them had the Triforce."

He lowers his head, crouches down, idly petting one of the cats.

"I don't think anyone at home knows what the Triforce is. And yet...it's everywhere here. And there's...some ancient sky civilization that created your people and I just...I don't know what it means..."

"Well...If I'm being frank here, Shad's research could very well have gone through a lot of hearsay and things could have gotten muddled up. That'll happen after so many years, you know?"

Oh well that's reassuring.

"As for the symbol. It's the Royal Family's crest."

......................................ah.

"...why is it the royal family's crest when it belongs to Hylia?"

"...Where do you think the name "Hylian" comes from?"

Bonus points if you remember that this world's Zelda is a princess.

"I don't know! I don't know the history of your people or your country or anything!"

"The Royal Family is descended from Hylia." Link.

That wasn't gentle at all.

Wouldn't it be nice, if he just looked cutely confused, and not desperately confused?

"H-how? How--"

But his friend said--an ancient sky civilization of beings who created the Hylian race...

And also--

"Why...why is your princess named Zelda?"

"...Tradition, I think? Every princess and queen of Hyrule I've ever read about was named Zelda, so that's probably a Royal Family thing."

But then, he's not ~properly~ from Hyrule, so he's not 100% sure on this.

"But why? If their names were all Zelda, and they were descended from Hylia..."

...He's silent, as he thinks Skyloft probably doesn't need this explained to him.

It looks like he's figuring this out pretty quickly, in fact.

He's silent for a good, long moment, staring at the cat, seemingly frozen between action and inaction.

(He hopes, to whichever of the goddesses are listening, that the other Link doesn't notice that he's literally frozen in that moment.)

When he comes to, he clasps his shaking hands together and asks, "Does that mean she's safe?"

"...I think that's safe to assume, yeah."

"That's..." He closes his eyes, lets out a laugh. Smiles.

Then looks thoughtful, in a goofy happy sort of way. "But that means she gets married! I mean, if she's the ancestor of your royal family. I wonder who's the lucky guy..."

"Well, do you know if she likes anyone?"
