Link Visiting Places: SKY WORL EDITION

Link had left the bar to make some arrangements--namely, making sure that the door lead him to Skyloft, rather than the Lanayru Caves--or the Lanayru Gorge. Wouldn't that have been confusing to the old dragon, walking out with another human?

Not that the people of Skyloft wouldn't be any less confused by the Link. Skyloft was a pretty tight-knit community for such a large island, and it'd be hard, explaining the other boy in a convincing fashion. He's hoping he can explain it away by saying he's a fan from one of the outlying islands. But he has his doubts about that...

Doubts he will set aside for the time being. It's time to wake the other boy up!

So he's knock, knock, knocking on his door.

"Hey, Link? It's me...Link!"

"Right, I...knew that," he says a bit sheepishly as he takes what he think is his bottled magic potion and hands over his money.

Well, at least he knows how shops work.

As the other Link pays Luv, Link of Skyloft looks at Rupin directly, a thin, terse smile on his face.

When the other Link's done paying, he promptly pulls him out of the Bazaar.

"Did you get everything you wanted?"

He...looks at Skyloft, then back into the Bazaar, then back at Skyloft in a really confused way.

"...Yes?" Link.

u ok?

"Sorry. That guy creeps me out."

Euch.

"Anyway, anything else around here catch your eye?"

[ocarina_of_rhyme]

"Uh, hmm." Gosh everything looks so colorful and nice oh hey giant fucking statue right over there!!!

"...That." He says, pointing to the Statue of the Goddess.

"Oh, the statue?" he replies, voice suddenly quiet. "We can go there. Sure."

He doesn't seem too enthusiastic about it. But that doesn't stop him from walking towards it, anyway, and beckoning the other boy to follow.

He...wants to ask what's wrong, but Skyloft will probably say when he wants to, so he follows, just observing.

"...It's alright if we go see the other islands too." It's okay, really!

"...we'd have to get on my bird," he says throwing a look over his shoulder. He doesn't quite look the other boy in the eye--and he's still walking towards the statue, now ascending the stairs that connect it to the Knight Academy.

"...Bird?" Whoaaaa whoa whoa whoa, hold on, they use birds to......well yeah, that'd make sense.

He's about to say that that's no problem at all but the other Link is walking ahead of him so he runs up the stairs to catch up.

He'll explain it all later. Maybe after he figures out why he bothered coming here, as they're now standing in the wide open courtyard before the statue. After he had collected all the pieces of the stone tablet, after--

There just hasn't been a reason to come here, is all.

And now that he's here, he can't bring himself to look at much more than the grass in front of him.

Meanwhile, Link slowly approaches the statue. It's...a lot bigger up close, obviously, bigger than he thought it'd be. And it's...a winged lady. A goddess, maybe?

But why just one goddess instead of the Three?

After admiring the statue for quite some time, he looks back at Skyloft, who doesn't seem to be as enthusiastic about this. He steps a little bit closer.

"...She's beautiful." Really, she is.

Link's head snaps up, eyes staring wide at the other boy. He lifts his gaze further, up towards the goddess.

And his whole face seems to crack.

"...that's Zelda!"

...It is? He looks at the goddess statue again, then back at the other Link and...his face.

He probably doesn't get the full...breadth of feelings that Skyloft is going through, only thinking of it in a "Childhood Friend" kind of way. He'll learn later, when he sees the kind of love that would make someone wait patiently in their home for their fiance, minutes before the world ends, but that's a whole world away.

For right now, the "Childhood friends" feeling works, and he puts a hand on the other man's (not boy, they're both men now) shoulder, but doesn't say anything else.

"Hylia...the goddess...Zelda, she...it's her, and..."

He should feel lucky. He is lucky, that he grew up among his people, that everyone here still knows who he is. He should be grateful for that.

But how can he feel grateful when he feels so alone?

He sinks to his knees, fists pressed against the grass. What a pathetic sight he must be! The goddess's chosen hero's just a sad little boy crying selfishly about his friend when the lives of so many are at risk. Why is he weeping for himself, when he could be out there completing his mission? Only one more piece of the song left to learn before Levias taught him his part, after all. So what was the delay? Why was he crying, when he was only born to fight? Why did he feel sorry for himself, when all he ever had been was a tool?

He punches the ground, hard, an frustrated cry escaping from his clenched teeth.

Why was he doubting his mission when he knew that it was right?

...Oh no. Oooooh no, how does he fix this?

He doesn't know how to fix this, oh no, how do you emotions???

So he takes Skyloft by the shoulders and hoists him back up, and shockingly, it's as gently as he possibly can, like he's handling a Cucco egg, followed by gently dusting off and patting down his tunic.

"...I'm sorry." They shouldn't have come here. They should go somewhere else, probably...

"It's o--" He stumbles forward a bit, one of his knees giving in. He places his hands on Link's shoulder to prevent him from falling on him.

"It's okay. Y-you didn't know...she's...she's the megami tensei reincarnation of the goddess..."

So, if she's where the Royal Family comes from...it's so odd, he's never heard of Hylia until now, but it makes so much sense. Hylians coming from Hylia, Hyrule being named after her...so it sounded like she was going to be okay, at the very least.

"You know...they say the Royal Family can do all kinds of things. Like magic and all kinds of powers. I've...never heard of Hylia before, but it makes a lot of sense now, if she's a goddess. Maybe...ah, come on."

He tries to walk him away from the statue, again, as gently as he possibly can, which is just a miracle.

"Ah--I can't--my knee..."

It's still not working. :(

Oh! Sorry. Then they'll...they'll sit down. Yes, that seems like a good idea. He helps Skyloft into a sitting position before sitting down next to him, letting him rest, if...that was why his knee was acting all weird.

"...Do you want to see what Zelda gave me?" Oh, hmm, he must be talking about the Ocariner.

"You mean that instrument? Sure." Pause. "...and you can play it, if you want."

[ocarina_of_rhyme]

"I-I'm not really that good." Liar, your songs can warp reality, you are plenty good. Anyway, he reaches into his tunic (not even wearing chain mail under that, good gods) and reverently takes out the flute-like instrument. It almost looks like it's made out of the same material as those..."Hylia-colored" things, like the Goddess Cubes. It also bears the mark of the Triforce, near the mouthpiece.

"...This is the Ocarina of Time." This is what led to his sleep.

And yet, he clutches the thing as if his life depended on it.

That's cool and all, but check out his harp.

"...I guess I didn't tell you I had an instrument of my own. This is the Goddess Harp."

Hey that's a pretty sweet-waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiit a second here.

"...You...I know someone who has that..." Like, the exact same one he is pretty sure.

How did Sheik get it, though???

"...this exact same harp?"

[ocarina_of_rhyme]

"I think so? It has those things on the ends, too."

He points to the curve/beak things that taper off, which...yeah, there probably aren't a lot of other harps out there that go for the same stylistic choice.
